———-James P. McCollom, Jr. ———– *Not certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in immigration law or in any other specialty area of Texas law.

Attorney McCollom handles immigration law cases almost exclusively.  An attorney who practices immigration law must be able to analyze the  complex interplay between federal immigration laws and  administrative regulations.  A competent practitioner should be familiar not only with the decisions and internal procedures of the Immigration administrative agency but also with the federal court decisions that are issued throughout the country.  With experience in federal court and the appeals process, the law firm can identify the legal issues from the beginning of the case.

Attorney McCollom represents clients in litigation before the Immigration Agency including in bond and removal proceedings, motions to reopen, and appeals. The law firm also handles federal court litigation and appeals.

Anyone may go to the USCIS or EOIR website and download a form.  While it may appear to be relatively simple to fill out and file a form, it is not so simple to prosecute a case to conclusion.  Immigration law is notoriously complex and may be frustrating to the person who might expect quick government action.

When a chess player makes a move, she must know what will be the result fifteen moves or more later into the game.  Similarly, the immigration attorney attempts to present a properly prepared case to allow the best opportunity for a favorable decision for the client at any point down the road.  It is the government who decides the case but the law firm works as a team with a client to help the public servants best understand the case.

When you choose an immigration attorney, you have to keep in mind that the immigration case may not be decided immediately.  Who do you want on your team to represent you to conclusion?  Who do you want as your coach?  With whom can you work?

Attorney McCollom also  prepares initial filings in family-based cases. The law firm represents clients in naturalization and citizenship applications as well.

McCollom is a native speaker in both English and in Spanish who was raised and educated in two cultures.

The firm provides the following services:

  • Federal Court litigation
  • Deportation or Removal
  • Motions to Reopen

  • Family-Based Immigration
