Introduction

James P. McCollom, Jr. is a Houston lawyer who mostly practices immigration law. 

He is experienced in analyzing the complex interplay between immigration agency regulations, federal immigration laws, and the U.S. Constitution.  He presents practical applications of his arguments in federal court litigation and appeals.

The practice extends to Motions to Reopen and appeals before the Board of Immigration Appeals and the Administrative Appeals Office.

Credentials

He is a 1988 graduate of The University of Texas School of Law and a 1984 magna cum laude graduate of Duke University.  He studied in Paris through a New York University spring semester program in 1983.

He is fluent in Spanish and proficient in French.

Mr. McCollom has practiced law in Texas for more than 20 years.  He is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of Texas, the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Western Districts of Texas, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.

He is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), the American Bar Association (ABA), and the Bar Association for the Fifth Circuit United States Court of Appeals.

He is a member of the State Bar of Texas standing committee on Lawyers' Assistance Program.

He is a member of the College of the State Bar of Texas.

While serving as an assistant county attorney early in his career, he mediated numerous cases, both in English and Spanish, as a community volunteer.
